Kenneth D. Hagan, MD

Dr. Hagan graduated with High Honors from Emory University in 1984 with a B.S. in Chemistry where he was inducted as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He continued his education at Emory University’s School of Medicine and received his Doctor of Medicine in 1988. Dr. Hagan completed his general surgery residency at the University of South Florida in 1993.

At USF, he was inducted as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and was recognized by his attending physicians as Outstanding Resident of the Year in 1992 and 1993. In 1993, Dr. Hagan entered private practice in Jacksonville, Florida. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1994 and was recertified in 2013. Dr. Hagan is a member of the American Hernia Society. As director of National Hernia Network, Dr. Hagan maintains oversight of all hernia surgeons, anesthesiologists, and facilities that participate in the network. He oversees the referral and follow-up of patients and is available to respond to questions throughout the process.

In private practice, Dr. Hagan was a general surgeon with Memorial Advanced Surgery. He has specialized training in advanced laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgical procedures and routinely performed these procedures. Prior to retiring in 2016, Dr. Hagan had active staff privileges at Memorial Hospital where he served in several administrative roles. Dr. Hagan served as the chairman of the Department of Surgery from 2008 – 2012. Additionally, he served as chair of the Quality Assurance committee and as a member of the Medical Executive Committee. In 2007, Memorial Hospital recognized Dr. Hagan as Physician of the Year. As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he served as president of the Jacksonville chapter in 2006-2007.

Dr. Hagan is active in charitable and community service programs. He actively supports the St. Boniface Haiti Foundation by traveling to Haiti to perform surgical procedures. Additionally, he was recognized by We Care Jacksonville (Duval County Medical Society) as Volunteer Specialist of the Year in 2000 and 2002 for his participation in the organization’s indigent care program. In 2014, We Care recognized Dr. Hagan again with the Award of Service.

National Hernia Network Director's Kenneth D. Hagan dogSince retiring, Dr. Hagan actively volunteers with his church and tutors kids in math at the Boys & Girls Club. He has traveled on mission trips to the Philippines, Haiti and Louisiana. Dr. Hagan and his lovely wife, Cathy, love to travel and are self-proclaimed gourmet cooks. They can often be found walking on the beach with their puppies, Tuck and Skye.
